Summer Wine Smoothie Recipe

Summer Wine Smoothie Recipe via The Nectar Collective

Recently, after thinking about it way too much, I decided to get a blender. I remember deliberating in my head if buying a blender meant that I was never going to leave Japan. Home appliances tend to make everything feel so permanent, like buying a toaster all of a sudden means you have three kids and a mortgage.  But then I realized my new blender would only cost about as much as the huge bag of dog food I recently bought Monja or what I might spend at an afternoon in Forever 21. Basically, I could deal with the cost and just because it wouldn’t be a summer dress that would fit neatly into a suitcase didn’t mean I needed to deprive myself of basic desires.

Phew. Now for the fun stuff. Lately, I’ve been making granola based smoothies that look like barf but taste great. Have I sold you yet? I am pretty in love with the idea of stuffing a bunch of healthy crap into a blender and then drinking half of my nutrients for the day. I keep thinking to myself, “…this is the future of food” and “I wonder how it would taste if I blended whole meals in here?” But then today I had an even better idea – wine smoothies. Nope, no chunky granola here, just a handful of berries, some yummy red wine, and a dash of yogurt. It was so easy to make and tastes great (which is an accomplishment since my $5 bottle of wine tasted like absolute crap prior to this recipe!). This drink would be fabulous for summer! I also want to try skipping the yogurt and blending it with ice to make a wine slushie. The possibilities are endless. Blender heaven, I have arrived.

I’m not really a white wine person, but I imagine you could do something similar using pears, apples, or peaches with white wine! Can’t wait to make this again on a hot summer day!

What do you think? Do you have any awesome smoothie recipes? I’m all ears!

Thank you! I kind of love it too :)

That’s pretty much the best/most dangerous idea ever.

    • http://thenectarcollective.com/ Mel @ The Nectar Collective

hahah I’m glad you included most dangerous as part of the description. What was dangerous is that I wrote this post while sipping on my wine smoothie…definitely had to do some extra editing! haha

  • dorsu

I thought you had written, “I’m really not a white person,” and I had to reread it a few times because I couldn’t understand what you meant by it hahaha

    • http://thenectarcollective.com/ Mel @ The Nectar Collective

haha I love that even when reading posts about wine smoothies, you are still cognizant of race and white privilege. :)

What a great idea!!! I’ve been on a smoothie kick this past month and when I’m at home, I enjoy putting them in wine glasses. Seems like the next logical step is to pop one open and let the fun begin! :)

And I feel you on the domestic stuff, too. I have trouble buying things like that, which is why I went so long without a couch. “AM I STAYING OR GOING?” I made it into such an existential crisis and then realized: okay, I can always get another couch. It’s okay. It’s nice to have some place to sit. :)

    • http://thenectarcollective.com/ Mel @ The Nectar Collective

hahaha Erika I’m glad I’m not the only one who has existential crises of domestic purchases. I was definitely making it a bigger deal than it needed to be! I actually was thinking of writing a post about how buying a blender makes me feel like I can never leave HAHA oh self…you’re ridiculous sometimes. Glad you got your couch. :)

Sounds like a recipe for a good summer! I was tempted to get a blender a while back but my sweet tooth would make things a lot less healthy. I’d put chocolate bars and sweets and all sorts in there!

    Enjoy your smoothies! xx

    • http://thenectarcollective.com/ Mel @ The Nectar Collective

Thanks Kayleigh! haha I feel you on wanting to stuff my smoothies with crack (i.e. chocolate). Sometimes I just think to myself, I wonder if I could shove some chocolate popsicles in there and make a milkshake. Let’s hope I can keep eating my spinach, too! :)

Spinach and chocolate might become the next best thing! xx

  • Rachel

Oh goodness. This smoothie recipe sounds so delicious (and it contains wine). Thanks for sharing! :)

Thanks Danielle! It was really good!!

  • Chelsea Diamond

i’ve been on a health smoothie kick as well. trying to cram as much spinach, whey protein, chia seeds and coconut oil in as my body will still like me for. but why have a healthy smoothie when you could have a wine one?!

    • http://thenectarcollective.com/ Mel @ The Nectar Collective

haha I’m totally with you Chelsea! I’ve been so excited about stuffing my smoothies with as much healthy crap as I can! it’s a wonder they still taste good! But I agree…we all need a little break, riiiight? ;)

  • Amanda Kerzman

What a great idea! i have been drinking a lot of smoothies for breakfast with blueberries, bananas, spinach and a bit of peanut butter. So yummy! I will definitely be giving this one a try.

    • http://thenectarcollective.com/ Mel @ The Nectar Collective

Amanda, we are leading a double life! I am eating literally the exact same thing for breakfast each day :) I’m totally in love with it, too! I hope you like this recipe :)

      • Jennifer Sardam

OMG, it’s awesome. I love my Vitamix to death! Why bother with cooking when I can just whip up something healthy and awesome in a flash? My little one loves my smoothies too! But I’ll be making myself smile with the wine one this weekend! Thanks for the tip.

I am always that way about hanging things on the wall, I always figure once a picture goes up it adds at least a month to the total time I will live somewhere!

    • http://thenectarcollective.com/ Mel @ The Nectar Collective

haha I actually loled at that because it’s so random but yet so true! I’ve had a box of things to hang for over a year. Maybe next week’s weekly wish should be to DECORATE! :D I’m down.
